After 3 years of van ownership and not putting on a front plate because ex Florida rental. Wife got a ticket for no front plate. Thanks, Missouri (and ass wipe Bella Villa municipality).

So today while my wife was dealing with our two kids and four of her sister’s we watched overnight so they could party, I went out and ended the 3 year procrastination endurance. I installed a front plate, but that’s not all.

Sometime last year I ordered some cheap aluminum light bracket off amazon for $14, and I planned on installing it on the equinox, but whatever it’s on the van now. I’ll just use some angle iron for equinox if I ever get to that. -insert link,( not the one I bought exactly but same thing)

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

First I had to get a back plate to attach it to as it’ll hold lights, it can’t just be to the plastic bumper. I cut a piece of 1/8” sheet I had laying around, and tucked it between the plastic bumper cover and the actual steel bumper behind it. Then lined up the “bull bar” close enough to center and sunk in a couple self tapping screws. Then, same with plate, some self tappers into the thin aluminum, and that’s done. Next I just set on some 90’s yellow fog lights I’ve had sitting around in the garage. I’ll wire them up eventually but for now the van looks a little more bad ass.

Side note: the van is now paid off a few months early even.

What I don’t get about our lovely state of Misery is that they popped you for no front plate but EVERY FREAKING DAY I see supposed “farm trucks” with no REAR plate and that is somehow legal. Something about preventing damage to the plate because they run a trailer. Only the truck either has no hitch or has a big fancy drop hitch setup so the plate would be in no danger at all. What sense does that make? ??!???

Trucks over 1/2 ton only get one plate from the state.

There was some talk of MO going to a one plate state, but of course Johnny Law couldn’t have that.

In my state having a front plate is considered a major  safety issue, unless your car is over 30 years old and then it magically isn’t anymore. It makes no sense.

One of the benefits of moving back to kansas, no more front plate.

What makes it dangerous? Just curious on the reasoning.

Probably that it makes it harder for laser speed guns to get a reading.

I see so many higher end cars in Bellevue without a front plate. I believe socio-economic-based law enforcement is part of it - tech/finance bro, trust funder or offshore money hider in a McLaren is a lot less likely to be pulled over for lacking a front plate than a kid from Tukwila in a 98 Civic.

I think for year of manufacture plates, only one is required.

Correct, if you have collector or year of manufacture plates you only need one which doesn’t make any sense to me but I’m not arguing. A front plate looks stupid on my Camaro. Rich people aren’t subject to the same laws as the plebes.

Texas has front plates, but when I moved here, I actually called to find out if they were required because I saw so many without one.

Bet it’s nothing they stop for, but they probably tack it in when they stop for something else.

My fintail has a pair of YOM plates and I don’t have a problem with them, as they look cool on the car, and as I found them at a yard sale for a quarter, I like to show off my lucky find.

If only the country could come to a standard for plates.

It definitely depends on the car. Some have a natural place for one and look good with them then there are cars like my Camaro that used a bolt-on bracket that doesn’t really fit. This just ain’t right and it’s worse on the split bumper RSs.

That’s the least  of the issues the guns will have getting a read on me.

The fog lights are a nice touch.

There are some better reasons:

Collector cars may be old enough that they may not have been designed for a front plate, in which case damaging one just to install it would be needlessly destructive. New cars are designed for front plates, so they can be installed as designed.

Collector plates normally have pretty strict mileage restrictions, which mean in theory, it’s less important as they should barel y see the road.

Ehhh...my car wasn’t designed for a front plate. I know it’s a lot cheaper to get a new bumper cover for a modern Fiat, but I still didn’t want to drill through it. Instead I got a bracket that bolts beneath the car but the front plate is still “illegal” since it isn’t a minimum of 12 inches above the ground. It’s a stupid law.

General question - what’s your impression of the van in general?  I’ve been eyeing one as a general people and stuff hauler.

As advertised.

So, it does what it’s supposed to. The stow and go in the middle are rarely used as you have to put either front seat all the way forward to access hole.

The transmission is a bit clunky and the eco button is worthless.

We get 19-20 mpg.

A problem I had was a rocker roller disintegrated and the rocker was tapping against the cam. I posted something about it here last year, for the extra $200 I had the cam replaced.

New michilan tires cost about $600 shipped before mounting.

Ours is trashed after kids and dog ride in it constantly.

My coworker has one as a work car and I’d consider it as we haul a decent amount of tools around.
